Three Rivers Little League (competitive baseball & softball)

Baseball Divisions

 BASEBALL DIVISIONS

Players are placed in divisions based on age, experience, ability, and the overall player numbers in a division. Age is not the only determining factor. For example, a 10 year old may be best placed on a Minors or Majors team depending on ability, experience, size, and strength.

Players are placed on teams by the school they attend, the towns they live in, or a draft. Depending on overall player numbers, teams may be formed across two or more towns and schools. We strive to have no less than 12 players, and no more than 14 players, on a team. Teams in the Minor division may have more than 14 players.

TRLL has 4 divisions of play established by Little League International. The following divisions and their descriptions are general guidelines. Players may be asked to play in a division outside of the target age.

Minors Division

Minors is an introductory division. Players are learning the rules of the game and developing fundamental skills. There is stealing, including home, but no leading off. The batting line up at games includes the entire roster in attendance whether playing defense on the field or not. Each player in attendance at games is guaranteed 6 consecutive outs in the field and 1 at bat.

Target Ages: 8, 9, 10

Player Pitch

Field Size: 60 foot bases/46 foot pitcher’s mound.

Majors Division

Majors is a division for kids with more experience and knowledge of the game and/or older players with little experience that need to build skills. Younger players with strong skills and more experience may be eligible and appropriate for this division. There is no leading off but stealing is allowed. Only the 9 players in the field playing defense are placed in the batting order, but substitutes are guaranteed to play a minimum of 6 consecutive outs in the field and 1 at bat.

Target Ages: 11, 12

Player Pitch

Field Size: 60 foot bases/46 foot pitcher’s mound

Intermediate Division [50/70]

Intermediate 50/70 is an introduction to a slightly larger field and the full rules of baseball including leading off, stealing, balks, and dropped third strike. Game day batting line ups include only the 9 players in the field playing defense. Each player in attendance at games is guaranteed 6 consecutive outs on the field and 1 at bat.

Juniors Division

Juniors play on MLB size fields. For many players that have played and grown up through Three Rivers, Juniors is an acknowledgement of their hard work and dedication to the game. It prepares them for playing in high school and beyond. New for 2022: 14 year olds will be trying out, not being assessed, for a spot on a team.

Target Ages: 13, 14
